After 4.5 years living and working out of a campervan, I finally put down roots. Last July I moved into a warehouse studio space in Nevada City, CA and it has been one of the better decisions I’ve made.
The van was total freedom, at times maybe too much! I clearly remember moments when parked in the middle of nowhere death valley sweating my ass off wondering,
“Am I homeless, what am I doing – where is this going?”
Then the most beautiful sunset would dance across the desert horizon as I prepared my dinner. Those weird thoughts would melt away.
One of my biggest struggles with the campervan was not having a photo studio or place to experiment, or have all my gear laid out in front of me.
Now life is feeling very full. I’m grateful.
The main room is just bout 1,000 sq ft with 17-foot ceilings, 23 feet wide and 43 feet long. There is a separate 300 sq ft lounge area, a private sound-dampened office, and a large bathroom with a utility sink. The building sits in a business park with dedicated parking for 10 cars on weekdays and 25 or more on weekends, plus street parking and a grass courtyard area.
When I moved in, the walls were bare and the space was a blank canvas. I built it out from scratch — sourcing smart on Facebook Marketplace and investing where it counted. The result is a fully functional professional studio that doubles as a flexible event space.
Studio Offerings
The space is available to rent beyond my own photography work. It has already hosted private dinners catered by chef Chris Radcliff, with kitchen access through the upstairs apartment. The cannabis friendly environment and flexible layout make it a natural fit for a wide range of uses.

If you are looking for a photography studio for rent in Nevada City, an event space in Nevada County, or a cannabis friendly venue for a private dinner or pop-up, this space was built for exactly that.
