Register your photos with the U.S. Copyright Office

Group registration lets you register up to 750 photos with the U.S. Copyright Office in one application, for one fee. This free helper does the preparation. The filing itself, including the fee, happens on copyright.gov.

How it works

  1. Enter your details. Your name and address as author and claimant. They go on every application.
  2. Add your photos. Mark each one published or unpublished, and give published photos the month they were first published.
  3. Plan the filings. The helper sorts your photos into applications that follow the Copyright Office rules: published and unpublished are filed separately, published photos are split by year, and each application holds at most 750 photos.
  4. Start each application on copyright.gov. Log in to eCO, the Copyright Office’s online filing system, start the group application, and copy the case number it gives you into the helper.
  5. Download your files. The helper makes the official title list spreadsheet and one zip of your photos, both named the way the Copyright Office requires.
  6. Finish on copyright.gov. Fill in the application with the answers the helper shows you, pay the fee, then upload the title list and the zip and submit.

Your privacy

Nothing is uploaded to or stored on this website. Your photos and your details never leave your computer, and we never see them. The helper remembers only your name and address, in your own browser, so you don’t have to retype them. Clearing your browser data deletes them. It keeps no record of your filings, so keep the title list spreadsheet from each filing.
